Argentiere

Argentiere is in the Chamonix Valley, about a 10 min drive from Chamonix village itself. Often you will find Argentiere referred to as being part of Chamonix, and the ski areas they share are all classed as the Chamonix - Mont Blanc ski area. It is however a separate village with it's own charactor.

The whole Chamonix - Mont Blanc ski area is divided into 4 main sections - Les Grands Montets, Les Houches, Domaine De Balme (Le Your / Vallorcine) and Brevant-Flegere. These are 4 separate ski areas with a short drive / bus ride between each. Each area is quite different, but all contain plenty of challenging skiing.

The Local Skiing in Argentiere is in Les Grands Montets section, the ski lifts run out of Argentiere ski resort itself. This is a high and often challenging ski area, capped by Les Grands Montet Glacier. You can ski up to 3275m on the glacier, making this an excellent ski area for top quality snow all season long. In general you will find most of the skiing in the Chamonix - Mont Blanc system similar in that there's lots of high snow sure skiing, often steep and challenging. There is skiing for beginners but it's fairly limited. Chamonix and Argentiere attract top skiers from the world over to ski it's steep and challenging terrain. Also there's wonderful off piste around Chamonix and Argentiere Ski resort, but it's definitely something to be done with a guide only, there's countless cliffs and dangers around these steep mountains.

I can't talk about Chalet Holidays in Argentiere and the Chamonix Valley without talking about the dramatic beauty of this place. A valley floor around 1000m, with soaring peaks around you going over 4000m, the dramatic views of this place are stunning. For those with a good head for heights your can always going up the Aiguille Du Midi on your next Argentiere Ski Holiday. A system of two large cable cars whisks you from the valley floor up to 3842m on the Aiguille du Midi, a sharp peak on the side of Mont Blanc. Here you can look out over the Glaciers around you and up to the close summit of Mont Blanc itself. This is all the starting point for people skiing the Vallee Blanche. This is a long off piste route skiing down glaciers from The Aiguille du Midi (3842m) down to Montenvers (1913m), a vertical drop of nearly 2kms! It takes a long half day and a guide is a must. The off piste itself is not the most challenging in the world and can be a bit hard packed / icy, but the scenery around you is like nothing else you'll see on any other ski holiday.

Chalet Holidays in Argentiere are plentiful, with lots of catered chalets and self catered ski chalets in Argentiere. There's also some smaller hotels and self catering apartments in Argentiere. For larger and fancier hotels you might be better staying down the road in Chamonix itself. There's some nice bars in Argentiere, but if you are after some serious nightlife on your ski chalet holiday to Argentiere then a night or two in Chamonix village (10 mins drive away) might be called for.
