Avoriaz
Avoriaz Ski Resort is the high point of the Portes du Soleil Ski Area. Based up at 1800m, this modern and practical ski resort has both hotels and a few Avoriaz Chalets. Surrounded by Morzine and Chatel, Avoriaz provides excellent access to the whole Portes do Soleil Ski Area
The Portes du Soleil ski area is the largest in europe, at 650kms of pistes with 208 lifts! This staggering sized ski area comprises of Les Gets, Morzine, Avoriaz, Chatel, Morgins, Torgins, Champoussin, Les Crosets, Champery, Chapelle d'Abondance & St Jean d'Aulps. Some of these ski resorts are in France, and some in Switzerland, and you can ski over the border between the two.
Avoriaz has a lively feel and is world-renowned for freestyle snowboarders and skiers. There's a superpipe (a large half pipe) and many different snow parks for all levels and tastes. There's very small parks for the first beginnings, mediums sized jump parks to hone your skills and then the very large snow pars for experts only! The burton stash in Avoriaz Ski Resort is a forest park comprising of jumps & rails all made from the forest. The touring competitions regularly come through Avoriaz so keep your eye on the calendar of events to pick your ski holiday week to coinside with the event of your choice.
Aside from the parks though Avoriaz has much more to offer the avid skiier & snowboarder. The pistes are wide and varying, mostly blues and reds. Avoriaz's central location inthe Portes du Soleil gives you excellent access to the surrounding ski resorts so if you like exploring as you ski this could be a good choice to base your Chalet Holiday in Avoriaz.
Avoriaz village is not beauty to the eye though! It's high, modern and practical. If you are after the charm and charactor of a traditional french alpine village then why not try a Chalet in Morzine, a Chalet in Chatel or a Chalet in Les Gets instead.

Avoriaz is situated in the popular Portes du Soleil skiing region of France, at less than one hour from Geneva it is an easily accessable resort. Avoriaz is situated close to the pioneering ski town of Morzine, it was built in the 1960's as a way of promoting skiing in the area, it is now one of the centers of snow sports catering for all standards of living, skiing and ranks among the top snowboarding destinations of the world.
The entire Portes du Soleil offers between 650 and 700 km of piste with the Avoriaz part of the skiing area consists of about 130 km of piste, nearly all of this area is connected by lifts. The Avoriaz-pistes can be divided in 4 sectors: The Lindaret, Haut-Forts, Fornet and Super Morzine.
