Chamonix

Chamonix, one of the most famous and prestigious ski resorts in the world, sits at the foot of Mont Blanc. This French Ski Resort is sats in one of the most dramatic and stunning parts of the French Alps. Chamonix Village is sat at 1035m, with the surrounding mountains soaring above with Mont Blanc as the peak at 4800m, it's quite a sight to behold.

The skiing in Chamonix is split into several separate areas, with a short drive between each. Generally people will pick an area and ski it for the day, before exploring another section of the skiing in chamonix the following day. The skiing is challenging and Chamonix boasts some of the best and most difficult off-piste in the alps. It's not for the faint hearted though and here more than anywhere a mountain guide is an absolute must for anyone venturing off piste. The ultimate off-piste route in chamonix is skiing the Vallee Blanche. For this you take the Aiguille du Midi cable car up to a staggering 3,842m. Then it's time to put harnesses and ropes on for a short decent of a narrow snow covered ridge to get to the Col where you can put your skis or snowboards on. From there it's skis on for the wonderful off piste down the vallee blanche. It's not the steepest or most challenging off piste skiing, but the scenery is second to none, it's a day you's not forget.

The Accommodation in Chamonix is mostly made up of small hotels and chalets, both catered chalets and self-catering chalets. There are many many chalet companies offering a whole range of catered chalet holidays in chamonix. The village is quite large, and many chalets are based in the surrounding hamlets so please do check the location of your catered chalet or self catered chalet to make sure it's exactly where you would like.

Chamonix has a vibrant nightlife as well as boasting plenty of french charm, so if the apres-ski is an important aspect of your chalet holiday then chamonix could be worth considering.
