Les Deux Alpes
Les Deux Alpes is a high altitude ski resort in the southern part of the French Alps. The main resort altitude is 1650m, which is an intermediate height for a French Ski Resort. The skiing though goes up to the very high 3568m, including one of the largest glaciers in Europe, meaning you can find great quality snow all season long up there. The ski area has 225kms of marked pistes served by 51 ski lifts, making this a mid sized ski resort by French standards, though there's still more than enough skiing for a fortnight's chalet holiday in Les Deux Alpes. Most of the skiing is high up above the tree line, with just the lower runs back into Les Deux Alpes being tree lined. Most of the skiing is South facing.
The village of Les Deux Alpes is quite a mixture - some traditional old chalets, some 1960's blocks, some more modern buildings that are now built in a much more inkeeping style. It's a long, thin ski village based on the two main roads, which form the hub of Les Deux Alpes. It's lively at night, with no shortage of bars & nightspots for those with spare energy to burn after a day on the pistes. It's certainly not the prettiest ski resort village in France, but neither is it the worst either.
There's a good range of accommodation here. Old traditional ski chalets that are now used as catered chalets in Les Deux Alpes, Self catered chalets & apartments, hotels and chatel-hotels (the smaller hotels, often older and in a chalet style). It's reasonably priced by French ski resort standards and it's got good access from Grenonble airport.
