For Beginners, Intermediate and Advanced Skiers

At The Chalet Experience we are committed to offering a comprehensive ski holiday experience, and this means that our ski chalets are able to host all levels of skier – whether they’re beginner intermediate and advanced – ensuring that your chalet holidays are appropriate for your particular ski level.

Ski holidays can be great for young families, and children can get so much out of not only the skiing itself, but also everything that goes with it – from the environment to the culture. Sadly, many great resorts are not very accommodating for kids, lacking childrens areas.

Les Gets, on the other hand, loves kids! and not only do our ski chalets incorporate features that your children will love – such as DVDs and computer games – but there are also ski areas reserved for kids at the resort.

Also, for adult beginners Les Gets has loads to offer, and by starting off on the lower nursery slopes you can nurture your confidence until you’re prepared for something a little more challenging.

In regards to intermediate skiers, there is plenty that Les Gets has to offer, and the Les Gets Bowl is a hub for lots of blue and red cruising runs, offering a fabulous skiing experience for intermediates.

On the advanced side of things, Les Gets really starts to shine, and advanced ski holidays will benefit from the meandering off-piste oppourtunities in the Chamoissiere and Nyon areas, even including a black run at Mont Cherry!

What to Do about Ski Hire

As our chalet holidays are geared to all sorts of skill levels, from beginner upwards, it is appropriate that we provide everything that a first time or inexperienced skier will need to enjoy their holidays. Luckily, Les Gets – our surrounding location – is a resort that is very welcoming for first time skiers – offering everything from ski lessons to ski hire.

At The Chalet Experience we understand that, for many, ski hire is fundamental to their ski holidays, and therefore rather than just leaving you to pay full price on your ski hire – which can be relatively expensive – we offer our clients 10% off ski hire, which should save you a significant amount of money overall.

Also, for residents of Chalet St Martin, we also offer the luxury of having your equipment – such as boots – fitted in your own home at no extra cost, perfect fro young families and beginner skiers!

As there is often a large discrepancy between different skill levels of skiers, it is important that ski equipment is hired that corresponds to your experience level. With this in mind, ski equipment is colour coded; ensuring that you know exactly what stuff you need for what slope. For example, a beginner skier will usually opt for green coded ski equipment.

Ski hire remains a great alternative to purchasing your own equipment – especially for beginner skiers – and that is why at The Chalet Experience we are committed to offering not only great ski chalets, but also an efficient ski hire experience.

Good preparation is an important part of ski holidays – whether its warming up prior to hitting the slopes or remembering to pack the right clothing and equipment. However, there is no reason why you can’t prepare well in advance to your ski holidays, and get a little practice in at one of the UK’s many dry ski slopes.

The nature of skiing makes it a little daunting, especially for young or inexperienced skiers. Therefore, as well as optimising your fitness levels before your ski holidays, a little time on a dry ski slope could help you get over any psychological obstacles.

Luckily, for anyone coming to our ski chalets from the UK, there are loads of great dry ski slopes throughout the UK, which means that within just a short drive, you should be able to get your ski or snowboard “legs”.

Whickham Throns outdoor centre in Gateshead Tyne and Wear is perfect for all levels of skier to get in some practice. Bowles Ski Centre in Kent and Aviemore school of snowboarding in Scotland are also great places to pay a visit to before you venture out onto the Swiss Alps.

Of course, whilst the UK is home to some of the finest dry slopes in the world, there isn’t anything quite like the real thing, so why not book one of our amazing ski chalets today!

Are Chalets Better than Hotels?

At The Chalet Experience we are committed to offering fabulous chalet holidays, in close proximity to some world beating skiing. But why do we choose chalets for our accommodation instead of, say, hotels?

Well there are plenty of reasons why we think that chalets are much more suited to ski holidays than hotel accommodation – from convenience to that certain je ne sais quoi.

A Personal Space

Even the most luxurious of hotels will never feel quite like home, whether its because of stringent feeding times, or the coming and going of other vacationers. With this in mind, chalets represent a great alternative, as our chalets are set up to be a “home from home” complete with separate rooms and modern conveniences. The homely nature of chalets also makes them ideal for children and young families.

The Romance

At The Chalet Experience we’re far from being the first to consider chalets perfect for ski holidays, and for hundreds of years they have performed as the ideal mountain accommodation – traditionally for alpine farmers high up in the mountains. And whilst our chalets have all the modern conveniences that you’d expect from great accommodation, we hope we’ve retained a little of that mountain romance through incorporating features such as log fires.

So, unlike even the best hotels, at The Chalet Experience we go beyond luxury, to offering accommodation that really is at home in the stunning environment of Les Gets!

Skiing – The Common Sense Approach

Whilst our chalet holidays promise some of the most exhilarating experiences that you and your group will ever have, as, essentially, you will be interacting with a mountain environment, safety is absolutely paramount – both for you and for those around you.

The increased need for safety shouldn’t daunt you nor should it put you off our chalet holidays, as whilst safety is an incredibly serious business, with a common sense approach to skiing the risks will be minimal.

As Les Gets is a popular resort, then it is likely that you’ll be sharing the ski slopes with other skiers, which means that due care and attention of other people is an important part of the skiing experience. With this in mind, ensure that you give fellow skiers enough space, and make them aware if you think you might be getting a little too close.

Ski holidays are often delineated according to skill, and therefore there will be certain areas that are meant for certain skill and experience levels; for example, as Les Gets is a child-friendly resort, it has a special area reserved for young skiers. For beginner skiers on chalet holidays therefore, it is not a good idea to roam beyond areas that are most appropriate for your skill level.

Beyond the piste there are plenty of things to do in Les Gets for the adventure minded, and therefore for everyone straying beyond the  hustle and bustle of the resort, it is important that you notify people of where you are going and when you will be back.

Warming Up for Safe Skiing

Our chalet holidays to the renowned area of Les Gets promise truly memorable holidays in the snow, and with them being activity led vacations they really are  great alternative to the staid old holidays in the sun.

However, as our chalet holidays are activity based, there are some important things to remember – and some things that you can do personally to ensure that your ski holidays go off without a hitch.

For example, prior to any strenuous activity – skiing included – it is a good idea that you engage in a bit of stretching, which will help to loosen your muscles, and diminish the risk of cramp and even more serious injury. If you are partaking of a lesson, there should be a stretching regime prior to your skiing.

Nutrition is also important for skiers, and high energy foods for breakfast will help you to go that little bit further when your en-piste. This nutritional requirement is one of the reasons why our catered chalets are perfect for skiing holidays, as you can be sure that you and your family will be eating exactly the right foods both before and after your skiing.

If you’ve never skied before and are a little trepidatious about what to expect, then it might surprise you to learn that there are plenty of places to go in the UK were you can get a taste of the skiing experience, such as dry ski slopes. But of course nothing will quite prepare you for the world class skiing of Les Gets!

Skiing – What to Wear on your Head

The received truth “you lose most of your heat through your head” is perhaps a little misleading, as loss of heat through the head is essentially just the result of it not being covered. In reality its capacity for heat lost is more or less the same as anywhere else on the body. However, this doesn’t detract from the fact that whilst on ski holidays, protecting the head from the cold is extremely important.

Luckily, these days there are plenty of effective ways to protect the vulnerable head area whilst on your ski holidays, and therefore there really is no excuse for taking the risk and not keeping your head covered comprehensively when you ski.

Hats

Although they are fairly simple pieces of kit, an insulating woolly hat is a crucial part of any skiers equipment, and still the most effective way to protect from the cold. Whilst hats are functional items on ski holidays this doesn’t mean that can’t look good, and there are loads of great hats nowadays that mix insulation with a bit of style – to create that recognisable ski look.

Face Masks/scarves

Sun burn and chill burn can be a huge risk on your chalet holidays, and therefore the more of your skin that is exposed to the elements the more in danger of burns you will be. With this in mind, facial coverings  can be hugely effective, as well as bolstering the insulating effect of a hat.

Things to Do in Les Gets – Beyond the Piste

Of course great ski holidays are about great skiing, however such is the nature of ski holidays and ski resorts is that “beyond the piste” there is plenty to satisfy the skier and non-skier alike, and promise a holiday experience that is unparalleled.

At The Chalet Experience, the importance of the ski experience beyond the piste is one of the reasons why we situate our chalets in Les Gets – a village not only renowned for its skiing, but also steeped in the kind of rich culture and history that you’d expect from an alpine destination.

For example, its South East France location means that it  is home to some truly world class restaurants and foods, from cheeses to breads, making it not only the ideal place for anyone with a gastronomical interest, but also the perfect location for our catered accommodation, as we can incorporate much of the local cusine into our menus.

On a similar note, at Les Gets you’ll also find a very culturally rich place, complete with, for example, a Ski museum and lot of great nightlife – which makes Les Gets the ideal location for anyone who wants to soak up a bit of world class culture!

Lest Gets is also known for its sports – as well as from skiing – and therefore its is entirely possible to mix your ski holidays up a little bit and perhaps do a little mountain biking in the picturesque surrounds of the alpine mountains.

The Chalet Experience – The Complete Package

At The Chalet Experience our chalet holidays are the perfect way to enjoy a fabulous ski holiday, but far from offering only great accommodation, at The Chalet Experience we like to go above and beyond the call of duty and offer the complete package.

For example, our chalets are decked out in everything that you’d expect from modern accommodation – plus a little extra – including everything from log fires to TVs and DVDs. This commingling of “traditional” chalet accommodation with modern convenience makes our holidays ideal for young families.

On an activity holiday, nutrition becomes especially important – but who wants to waste their time planning menus everyday? Well at The Chalet Experience we understand that you don’t want to have to cook on chalet holidays, and that is why we offer catered chalets, which ensures that not only do you eat the right foods, but that you do it in style.

Of course the most important part of a ski holiday is the skiing! With this in mind, we like to make everything as easy as possible, providing accommodation that is in easy distance of the fabulous slopes of Les Gets, and all of the appropriate ski hire equipment.

While we have a lot to offer, we also realise that the ideal chalet holidays will differ from person to person. That is why we are committed to offering vacations that are versatile and can be adapted to your personal tastes, skill level, and group size.
